Seeing how everyone is saying this, it's about time I step out of my self-imposed stupor and wish people.
So here's hoping people had a lovely time with India's greatest celebration of air pollution and child labour!
Clearly, I'm not a festival-sy kind of guy.
Let it also be stated for the record that this frame of mind is brought about only by my thorough dislike of what these festivals now stand for. I'm sure they originally had loftier ideals in mind, but that's clearly not the case anymore.

why bother about what they stand for now...or that they have ceased to be what they were...
its just that happiness is in the air along with the pollutants and noise...so it is up to us to filter out just the happiness ...
child labour is circumstantial... and yes, we cannot ignore it ... and why is it that issues such as these take a forefront only during such times... when they are as equally serious any time of the year...ha..?
and we also need to remember that diwali is all about coming out of darkness into the light...
some traditions and festivals need to be a part of our lives to keep their basic essence alive within us...
it is a beautiful day and a beautiful time of the year... there is a rich
mythological and metaphysical importance attached to it which gives us (as Indians) our cultural identity...
please dont be this way...

I'm all for happiness. As long as it's not harming other people. And this does.
And my belief in causes is not limited to time periods. However, comments on this issue are often brushed aside as inconsequential when not put in reference to something that is in your hand, literally at the time.
And I agree, some festivals need to be part of our lives, but not if the values they stand for are eroded.
And yes, we love you too. =)
Dear 'ol haggard, cheer up! Ideals or no ideals, gorging on all those mithais & floating about the house in pretty, shiny clothes is truckloads of fun, for some of us at least. And plus, some people are switching over to eco-friendly crackers, if not giving up on bursting crackers altogether.

I like the way you think, I'm glad you're conscious about issues all the time (you can use the same font size and make it bold you know, coz that's what you believe in!). But I also think festivals are all about fellowship and togetherness - share the feeling and keep the hope :)
